We are sitting at our cabana late that night waiting for my daughter’s friends to be picked up and I looked to see if there were any other name horses running and I found a horse named Jammie running in West Virginia and threw 5 win-place on it and I played a triple and exacta for the heck of it. Well, Jammie won and paid $29.80 to win for $103 and the Postyman hit the triple and exacta also for another $900 for a total of $1,500 on the day, which just about paid for the party and guest passes.”

With the opening of Saratoga Race Track just around the corner (July 19), we were reminded of the time Freddie Papers asked his mechanic, Kenny McLean, to fix his car. Freddie Papers got his nickname because back in the day, he sold The Daily News at the toll booth of either the Triboro Bridge or the Throgs Neck Bridge.
